About Me
FROM MY MOTHER’S WOMB & STILL TRAVELIN’
Peace, y’all—I’m Gracie Nicole Berry, known as TheeAmazingGrace, a name my mother lovingly gave me. She used to say, “Gace” (her earliest nickname for me), “you not just Amazing Grace, you thee one and only!” lol.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, my roots are woven from the spirit of my ancestors and the fire of reclaiming what I believe was never truly lost. I proudly trace my mother’s lineage to the Mende people of Sierra Leone and carry the echoes of the Maafa-the Afrikan Holocaust, with deep roots to Barbados, North Carolina and South Carolina. My ancestors’ survival was more than fierce resistance and unwavering love—it was a bold declaration to thrive, to hold love steady through catastrophe. I carry their spirit in every breath and move I make.
I’m the founder of GirlrillaVintage—a living, breathing platform I birthed in 2010 to celebrate the Afrikan diaspora through expressive arts, education, spirituality, vintage aesthetics, and empowerment. “Girl real with her vintage” isn’t just a name—it’s a way of being. It’s me.
As a multidimensional creative and community roothealer with over 25 years cultivating everything artful, I move through this world as one of many vessels—reclaiming voice, memory, and truth. My work is a sacred dance between pain and power, rooted in ancestral wisdom and guided by the call to transmute trauma into collective liberation.
My community celebrates me for planting raw seeds—through performance, writing, visual art, conversation, and teaching—that awaken what’s been waiting to bloom. As the first in my family to graduate college—from the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University (HBCU)—I carry the matriarch’s role with deep pride and purpose. My life’s work is legacy work: healing, unlearning, and building in love, sovereignty, and spirit.
Thank you for sharing space with me.
